An All-Inclusive Ramen Restaurant

Ramo Ramen, located along Kentish Town Road, serves an entirely halal-friendly menu of traditional ramen with a Filipino spin.

The Ramo Difference

It’s no secret that the growth of ramen restaurants in the UK, and in the Western world at large, has positively exploded in recent years. It has become so much more than a passing trend or food fad, having endured over the past couple of decades to become a veritable art form. Londoners are especially spoiled for choice when it comes to the sheer number of ramen joints to eat at—but as one of our founders, Omar Shah, noticed, very few are actually halal-friendly.

“I’ve always been in love with ramen. But I saw that most ramen places in London had a very heavy pork-based menu. I wanted to change up that formula by offering more chicken and vegan options and by making our menu entirely halal.”

Gaining Traction in the Halal Food World

Despite London’s sizeable Muslim population, many of the city’s ramen places, as Omar pointed out, still serve ramen that has a stock made from simmered pork bones, such as tonkotsu. But Ramo is different, having seen this gap in the market and wanting to offer up an appealing alternative. A big part of our ethos is that everyone, regardless of religious beliefs or dietary restrictions, should be able to enjoy our delicious food, which is why we don’t feature any pork on our menu, and why all of our meat is halal.

The response to this spirit of inclusivity and support has been overwhelmingly positive. We’ve been glowingly reviewed by several major halal food bloggers, including Halal Girl About Town, Halal Grubbin’, and Steak and Teeth. The latter even went so far as to say that Ramo Ramen reminds him of why he loves living in London: “There is no other city where you would be able to find a halal restaurant serving great Japanese ramen, with a unique Filipino twist. Thanks to Ramo Ramen, such a notion is no longer the stuff of fantasy, and I for one will certainly be returning.” His review highlights how rare and special our dishes actually are, and that we’ve made a once seemingly impossible culinary concept into a delicious reality.
